Project Overview

A homeowner from Rochester, New York (Monroe County) reached out to us through Google looking for a reliable gravel driveway contractor. Their existing driveway had a thin layer of stone that would quickly turn muddy after rainfall, with grass and weeds creeping in. What they really wanted was a proper gravel driveway.

We’ve completed similar gravel projects in nearby towns, including a Land Clearing and Gravel Driveway Expansion in Holley, New York and a Gravel Driveway Repair and Refresher in Spencerport.

How We Completed the Topsoil and Seeding Project

Driveway Excavation and Site Preparation

We started by scraping down the entire 1,610-square-foot driveway area to a depth of 4 inches. This allowed us to remove soft spots, surface weeds, and old stone while creating a clean, level base for the new layers. All excavated materials were hauled offsite and disposed of properly as part of our installation service.

Installation of Geotextile Fabric

To reinforce the base and prevent future weed growth, we installed geotextile fabric over the newly prepared surface, especially in the previously grassy area in front of the shed. This fabric layer helps stabilize the foundation and keeps the gravel from mixing with the soil underneath, giving the driveway a longer lifespan.

Application of Crushed Stones

We then delivered and applied approximately 40 tons of #1 Crusher Run gravel to the driveway. The stone was spread to a consistent thickness of 4 inches, then graded and compacted using our double-drum vibratory roller.
