Shoreline Erosion Control Project in Waterport, Orleans County, New York

Project Overview

Our client in Waterport, Orleans County, New York, was dealing with a serious erosion problem along the edge of their shoreline. The bank had started to collapse, putting their property at risk. They reached out to us looking for a reliable sitework contractor to stabilize the area and restore it for long-term protection. The main goal was to prevent further soil loss and strengthen the shoreline.

How We Completed the Project

Site Plan

Surface Preparation and Geotextile Fabric Installation

We began by carefully excavating and preparing the 500-square-foot area slope by removing loose soil and rocks. We then installed geotextile fabric, which stabilizes the soil and allows for proper drainage.

Surge Stone Application

Next, we delivered and placed 65 tons of surge stone. Our team strategically positioned large limestone boulders along the slope, embedding them securely into the bank. The surge stone now acts like a retaining wall, holding the soil in place while blending into the environment.

Topsoil Installation and Restoration

Since heavy equipment was used to move the stone, we finished the project by restoring the disturbed areas. We spread 12 yards of topsoil at a 3-inch depth, raked it level, and prepped the ground for grass growth by spreading grass seeds and straws.

Project Insights

This project gave the property a stable shoreline that will resist erosion for many years. The surge stone and geotextile fabric combination ensures the slope stays intact while looking natural. The restored topsoil makes the area ready for grass or future landscaping.
