Before, during, and after: Our gravel driveway extension project in Holley, NY (Orleans County) involved land clearing, proper site preparation with fill dirt, and finishing with compacted crusher run.
Project Overview
A homeowner in Holley, New York (Orleans County) contacted us, DC Hauling Excavating & Gravel Driveway Specialists, Inc., looking to expand their existing gravel driveway. They needed more room for parking, but the area where they wanted the addition required fill material before anything else could be done. The client found us while searching for a gravel driveway contractor who could handle the full process from land clearing and grading to gravel driveway installation.
The area was overgrown with vegetation and needed to be cleared to prepare the ground for the gravel driveway extension.
How We Completed the Project
Gravel Driveway Site Preparation
We began by preparing the existing 900-square-foot area. This involved removing all debris and making sure the surface was clear, level, and ready for the fill material. A well-prepared base is important before any driveway addition can begin.
We supplied and delivered 130 yards of fill dirt to build up the low-lying area. The fill was applied in 12-inch layers to a total thickness of 36 inches. Each layer was graded and compacted using our double-drum vibratory roller.

Gravel Driveway Crusher Run Application
After the fill was in place, we delivered and applied 30 tons of crusher run. This was laid out to a depth of 6 inches, then graded, compacted, and rolled to create a finished gravel surface that matches the existing driveway.
After compacting the fill dirt, we applied geotextile fabric and began spreading 30 tons of crusher run to build a stable and well-graded surface.
