New Concrete Driveway Installed in Rochester, New York (Monroe County)

Project Overview

Our dear client from Rochester, New York, reached out again. This time, looking for a site work contractor to dig out his old asphalt driveway and install a new concrete driveway. We had previously worked with him to build a 22’x22′ concrete foundation for his prefab garage and a 35’x12′ concrete driveway apron. It’s always a great feeling when past clients trust us for another project.

For this job, he wanted the worn-out asphalt gone and replaced with something cleaner, stronger, and longer-lasting concrete driveway. Since the foundation and the driveway apron at the side and rear of his property were already concrete, it made sense to go with concrete again to keep everything consistent.

That meant full excavation, new base preparation, and a fresh concrete pour with broom finish. Let’s walk through how we completed it.

How We Completed the Project

Excavation and Driveway Preparation

First, we excavated and prepped the entire 1,200 sq. ft. area. We removed 4 feet of the driveway near the fence and 1 foot near the house. After, we hauled away the old asphalt and excess materials.

Concrete Driveway Base Preparation

Old asphalt and sod were removed from the driveway area.

Installing Concrete Driveway Base

Next, we delivered and applied 24 tons of #1 Crusher Run. The stone was laid out 4 inches thick, then graded, compacted, and rolled to form a solid base for the concrete.

Concrete Driveway Crushed Stones Application

Crushed stones were applied that will serve as the base for the concrete driveway.

Concrete Pouring and Broom Finish for the Driveway

We returned several days later to pour 15 yards of 4000 PSI concrete reinforced with fibers. The slab was 4 inches thick and finished with a clean, smooth surface. We cut control joints after curing and pulled all the forms.

Final Touches and Cleanup

We came back again the following day to level the surrounding topsoil, push it up neatly to the concrete edges, and spread grass seeds to help the area blend in naturally with the rest of the yard. Once the concrete has fully cured in 30 to 45 days, we’ll return one final time to apply a professional-grade concrete sealer for added protection and durability.

Project Insights

This concrete driveway gave our client a clean slate literally. The old, worn-out asphalt is gone, replaced with a solid, smooth concrete surface that not only looks better but also holds up better over time.

What’s also great about this upgrade is that it ties everything together. The client already had a concrete foundation for his prefab garage and a concrete apron leading to it. Now, with the main driveway also in concrete, the entire layout feels cohesive and clean.

Aside from booting curb appeal, upgrading your driveway makes pulling in and out of your property feel effortless and clean. It’s the kind of improvement that instantly elevates the overall look and function of your home.
