Asphalt Driveway Replacement Project in Rochester, New York

Project Overview

A homeowner reached out to us, a driveway contractor serving Rochester and the whole Monroe County, New York, after finding themselves in a tight spot. They needed a section of their driveway repaired quickly because it had to pass inspection for a Certificate of Occupancy. The previous owner had attempted a patch job by dumping gravel into a large hole, but that wasn’t going to cut it for the state.

After finding us online, they requested a detailed quote. Their goal? A smooth, solid, and inspection-ready asphalt driveway from the tree line all the way to the road.

How We Completed the Project

Driveway Excavation and Site Preparation

We began by excavating the damaged 350-square-foot area (about 25×12 feet, plus a smaller 3.5×14 section) to remove all the loose gravel and debris left by the previous owner. Our team made sure to properly grade the surface to set the foundation for new crushed stone and asphalt.

Driveway Preparation and Installation of Crushed Stone Base

Stone Base Installation

We delivered and installed 8 tons of crusher run stone to the newly excavated area. Using our grading tools and double drum roller, we leveled and compacted the base to create a firm, stable surface for the asphalt.

Asphalt Application

Once the base was ready, we brought in 6.5 tons of hot asphalt binder. We applied it at a 3-inch thickness, then compacted it down to 2.5 inches for a durable finish. We carefully graded and rolled the surface to ensure it was not only smooth, but also met inspection requirements.

Project Insights

This asphalt driveway replacement was more than a cosmetic fix—it was a necessary step for the homeowner to move forward with their Certificate of Occupancy. It’s a great example of what happens when a shortcut repair doesn’t cut it, and why doing things the right way matters.

We’ve seen similar situations before. For example, in our Asphalt Driveway Installation Project in Oakfield, NY, we replaced a driveway riddled with cracks and pothole patches. And over in Lyndonville, NY, a homeowner had a gravel driveway that was just thrown together without proper grading so we installed a brand-new asphalt driveway with a matching gravel shed pad to tie it all together.

If your property also has a driveway that’s failing inspection (or just plain failing), this project is a solid example of how we can help you move forward. Replacing a broken driveway not only improves the safety and functionality of your home but also increases its curb appeal and compliance with local codes.
