Project Overview

A homeowner in Oakfield, New York (Genesee County) reached out to us through Facebook looking for a driveway contractor to tear up and replace her old asphalt driveway. She wanted a new asphalt driveway and we were happy to help her make that happen. Their ultimate goal is a fresh start with a smoother, cleaner driveway that’s built to last and easier to maintain.

How We Completed the Project

Driveway Tear-Out and Site Preparation

We began work on March 19, 2025. The existing 1,880 sq. ft. asphalt driveway was full of cracks and in poor shape. We tore it all out and excavate the sod, properly disposed of the materials, and prepared the base to ensure solid support for the new asphalt. The area was graded and leveled for a clean finish.

We brought in 45 tons of crushed stones, applied at 4″ thick. This was carefully graded, compacted, and rolled to make sure the base was firm and ready for paving. For the additional 126 sq. ft. apron (outlined in light blue), we excavated the area and followed the same preparation process. We used 2 tons of stone, applied 4–6” thick, also compacted and leveled to match the rest of the driveway.

Asphalt Driveway Site Preparation

The existing asphalt driveway was removed and part of the lawn was excavated for the expansion of the asphalt driveway.

Asphalt Driveway Paving

Once asphalt became available later in the season, we returned on May 30, 2025, to complete the paving. (The delay allowed time for the base to settle properly)

We installed 18 tons of hot asphalt over the 1,880 sq. ft. main driveway area. It was applied at 3” thick and rolled down to 2 ½”. For the apron addition, we used 1 ton of hot asphalt, applied and compacted the same way—3” thick and rolled to 2 ½”.
