Before and After of Gravel Driveway Refresher Project in Holley
Project Overview
A sweet homeowner reached out to us, DC Hauling Excavating & Gravel Driveway Specialists, Inc., for help for a gravel driveway refresher and concrete sidewalk removal in Holley, New York (Orleans County). The concrete entryway and sidewalk had settled unevenly, and grass had started taking over the driveway edges. The client wanted the old concrete removed and replaced with fresh gravel across the entire area. Their long-term goal is to turn the entry space into a patio, so this project was an important first step in getting their property back in shape.
Here is the Existing Condition of the Property:

How We Completed the Project
Removal of Old Concrete Sidewalks and Walkways
We began by removing the old concrete from the entryway and the side walkway. This cleared the space and allowed us to prepare for a new gravel foundation that would be even and safe
Gravel Driveway Surface Preparation and Refresher
Next, we scraped down the existing driveway and removed weeds, grass, and potholes. This step ensured that the base was clear before applying new gravel.

The driveway was scraped down and freed from weeds and grass.
Crushed Stones Supply and Application
We supplied, delivered, and applied 40 tons of 5/8ths Crusher Run gravel. Areas where concrete was removed received a 4-inch layer for added strength, while the main driveway was covered with a uniform 2-inch layer. Finally, we compacted the entire surface with a double-drum vibratory roller to achieve a solid and long-lasting finish.

Client Review

“After 32 years of old gravel and concrete and weeds with grass overtaking the driveway and walkways, I contacted DC Hauling for excavation work. Dan worked nonstop for over 7 hours ripping up the old and laying new gravel. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. Thank you, Dan. No more sloping concrete and mud puddles in my driveway and walkways.”
Project Insights
The new gravel driveway gave the property a clean, refreshed look. By removing the old concrete and weeds, the entryway and driveway are now safer, more functional, and easier to maintain.
If you’ve been living with cracked concrete, uneven walkways, or a driveway that’s slowly disappearing into the grass, a gravel driveway refresher like this can make a huge difference. It’s a cost-effective way to get a level surface that looks neat and is ready for future upgrades, like a patio or landscaping.
This project is a great example of how refreshing an old driveway can completely transform a property. We’ve had similar projects where homeowners shared the same vision:
- Gravel Driveway Refresher and Concrete Pad Project in Lyndonville, NY – Here, we fixed potholes, ponding, and thinning gravel, then added a new concrete pad, giving the property a refreshed driveway and a functional outdoor space.
- Gravel Driveway Repair Project in Caledonia, NY (Livingston County) – In this project, the driveway hadn’t been touched since the 1990s. We restored it with fresh crusher run stone, giving the property a smooth and clean upgrade.
And if you’re thinking ahead, refreshing isn’t the only option. Some of our clients eventually upgrade their gravel or crushed stone driveway to asphalt driveway for a sleeker look.
