Land Grading and Gravel Driveway Installation Project in Pittsford, Monroe County, New York

Project Overview

Our client in Pittsford, NY was looking for a gravel driveway contractor to help solve a frustrating issue – rainwater flooding into their garage. They found us while searching for solutions, and reached out hoping we could regrade their gravel driveway and correct the drainage. Their main concern? The driveway area was slightly higher than the garage floor, which allowed water to rush straight in during heavy rains. The ultimate goal was simple: stop the flooding and leave the driveway clean, level, and worry-free.

This kind of issue is more common than you might think, especially on sloped driveways. If you’re facing a similar situation, our excavation and land grading services can help recontour your site so water flows the right way—whether you’re working with a driveway, a foundation, or an entire building pad.

Regrading and Gravel Driveway Surface Preparation

We started by regrading the entire area—especially in front of the garage, the main drive, and the hillside section to the right. Our goal was to change the water’s direction, pushing it safely downhill instead of pooling near the garage.

Next, we removed potholes, ruts, and any uneven spots. This gave us a clean and stable base to work with. It’s a key step to make sure the new gravel settles properly and lasts longer.

Stone Installation & Compaction

We delivered and applied 20 tons of #1 Crusher Run stone across the freshly graded surface. This type of stone locks in tightly and provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for driveways like this one.

Finally, we used our double-drum vibratory roller to compact the gravel. Everything was machine-graded and packed down to a depth of about 2 inches. This gave the driveway a smooth, solid surface that resists wear and sheds water effectively.

Project Insights

Fixing the drainage issue not only stopped the flooding—it also gave our client peace of mind every time it rained. The regrading work, paired with fresh gravel and solid compaction, ensures the driveway now directs water away from the garage. It’s smoother, stronger, and designed to handle both slope and storm.

If your gravel driveway causes water problems near your home, this project is a great example of what’s possible. You don’t have to live with puddles, ruts, or flooding—especially when a proper regrade can fix it all.
