Gravel Driveway Repair in Hilton, New York

Project Overview

Our client for this project wasn’t your typical homeowner – it was actually a local bird observatory based in Hilton, New York. They maintain a beautiful space for wildlife study and community visits, but their gravel driveway and parking lot had become a problem. Over time, the 260-foot-long driveway and the 50×75-foot parking area had developed deep potholes and drainage issues. According to them, the original person who used to maintain it was no longer available due to health reasons, so the observatory reached out to us for help.

Their goal was to restore the entire gravel surface, eliminate the pooling water, and improve access for both staff and visitors especially during the rainy season. They also needed better definition of the driveway edges, which had become blurred due to gravel shifting and tree overgrowth.

If you’re planning something similar but on a larger scale, check out our Land Clearing and 1850-ft Gravel Driveway Installation in Hilton, NY to see how we handle extended driveways and undeveloped properties.

And if your site has trees or brush crowding the access areas, we also offer Land Clearing and Brush Removal Services to help open up space for future development or better visibility.

How We Completed the Project

Gravel Driveway Repair Site Plan

Gravel Driveway Repair

We began by scraping and repairing the entire 6,400-square-foot area, including the 260-foot-long driveway and the 50×75-foot parking lot. Our team used skid steers and grading attachments to remove all the deep potholes and level out the surface.

We also took the time to establish proper driveway edges. This gives a clean, professional appearance and helps keep the gravel in place, especially along the sides where trees had previously encroached.

We supplied, delivered, and applied 80 tons of #1 crusher run stones across the entire site. This type of gravel is known for its excellent compaction and stability, making it ideal for high-traffic driveways and parking areas.
After evenly spreading the gravel at a depth of 2–3 inches, we graded and compacted everything using our double-drum vibratory roller.

For properties that continue to have water pooling despite proper grading, we also recommend installing drainage solutions. You can learn more about our approach through our Drainage Installation Services.

Project Insights

The difference here is night and day. What used to be a pothole-filled, muddy mess is now a smooth, level, and well-defined gravel driveway and parking area. No more splashing through puddles or dodging craters. Everything is easier to drive and walk on, and the property as a whole just looks more put together.

This project is a great example of what a well-planned gravel driveway restoration can do, not just for aesthetics, but also for function and ease of maintenance. If you’ve been dealing with a rough, water-holding driveway like this one, we’d love to help.
